Pointe aux Canonniers

Pointe aux CanonniersPointe aux Canonniers is the north-western part of Maurtius. The picturesque and quiet village forms a peninsula and is therefore surrounded on three sides by the Indian Ocean.

With some imagination, the peninsula has the shape of a head of the Hammerheadshark. The Westseite itself forms one of the most beautiful beaches of Mauritius with the name Mon Choisy and Trou aux Biches. On Sundays there are many local people doing their picnics there. For the tourists a good opportunity to get in touch with the Mauritians or simply to observe them. The beaches around Pointe aux Canonniers also invite you to beach hiking.

The east side of the peninsula already belongs to Grand Baie, so Pointe aux Canonniers, if you will, is a suburb of Grand Baie with its great bay shining in all colors. In the village itself you will find some smaller supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, galleries, pharmacies and clothes shops.

Even without a vehicle you can move around this part of the tropical island without problems. The public buses run there very frequently and the bus ride is still part of the Mauritian life. Because the north is very flat, Pointe aux Canonniers is one of the driest regions on the island.
